Understanding Today

Today uses your selected lawn, its recorded care and the available weather inputs. Open a reading's explanation to understand its basis. A modeled reading is not a direct measurement of the lawn.

Water, disease and vigor readings describe different things. Vigor can include timing credit for a configured plant growth regulator program. That credit does not establish remaining chemical suppression. Feature availability can also depend on your app version and access.

What is the Water score on Today based on? Is it measuring the moisture in my lawn?

Yes—the Water score estimates moisture conditions around your lawn's roots. It uses a model, rather than a moisture sensor in your lawn.

The water balance is based on FAO-56, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's method for estimating crop water needs. Rain and the watering you log replenish the balance; weather-driven evaporation and grass water use draw it down. Your soil and grass settings help determine how much water the root zone can store and when it starts running short.

Lawn Ledger turns that balance into its own 0–100 score. It falls as the lawn approaches or passes its dryness threshold, with further reductions for longer dry spells. Several consecutive days near full water storage can also lower it as a wetness warning. Whichever condition is worse drives the score.

It stays at 100 while conditions remain within the model's healthy band. Moisture can rise and fall within that band without a penalty: 100 means no modeled water-stress deduction, not 100% soil moisture.

The estimate depends on weather, soil and grass settings, and accurate watering records. The wetness warning cannot confirm actual waterlogging.

  1. Check the selected lawn.
  2. Open the reading or warning and its explanation.
  3. Check whether the weather is current and relevant care has been logged.

An unavailable reading is unknown. It must not be interpreted as a zero or proof that the lawn has no problem.
