The bag says it covers five thousand square feet. At the rate you are actually spreading, over the lawn you actually have, how many feeds is it — and what does each one cost you?

How your application rate changes coverage

For a fixed bag size, a higher application rate covers less area; a lower rate covers more. Divide the bag quantity by your rate per 1,000 ft², then multiply by 1,000. For example, 40 lb at 4 lb per 1,000 ft² covers 10,000 ft². Use a rate permitted by the product label and your actual lawn area to work out how many applications the bag provides.

Cost per application is the figure worth writing down. It turns a shelf price into the thing you actually compare: what one feed of your lawn costs from this product versus that one.
